Root responses to neighbors depend on neighbor identity and resource distribution

چکیده

In a complex soil environment, competitive and environmental factors interact with individual traits to influence plant’s root growth patterns ability compete for resources. Here, we examine how of focal plant, Plantago lanceolata L., responds resource heterogeneity presence two neighbor species, Centaurea jacea L.and Poa pratensis L. A full factorial experiment tested the effects nutrient heterogeneity, neighbors, their interaction on responses Plantago. Roots in shared quadrants pot were harvested quantified by qPCR plants grown alone or neighbor, patchy even soil. The experimental treatments mass distribution two-way ANOVA. When resources evenly distributed, individuals increased allocation but not neighbor. patchy, responded more strongly than Centaurea, placed roots high-resource patch. These results demonstrate that can respond differently neighbors depending species integrating multiple cues non-additive behavior.

Responses of root growth and distribution of maize to nitrogen application patterns under partial root-zone irrigation

A field experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of varying nitrogen (N) supply andirrigation methods on the root growth and distribution of maize (Zea mays L.) in Wuwei, northwest China in 2011 and 2012. The irrigation treatments included alternate furrow irrigation(AI), fixed furrow irrigation (FI) and conventional furrow irrigation (CI). The N supply treatmentsincluded alternate ...

Neighbor vector centrality of complex networks based on neighbors degree distribution

We introduce a novel centrality metric, the neighbor vector centrality. It is a measurement of node importance with respect to the degree distribution of the node neighbors. This centrality is explored in the context of several networks. We use attack vulnerability simulation to compared our approach with three standard centrality approaches. While for real-world network our method outperforms ...

The Effect of Neighbors on Root Distribution in a Creosotebush (Larrea Tridentata) Population

We excavated and mapped the lateral extension of 32 creosotebush shrubs (Larrea tridentata) in the Chihuahuan desert of New Mexico to examine the effect of neighborhood interaction on root distribution. The smallest closed-angle polygon encompassing all roots of an individual was taken as a representation of its root system. Several geometrical characteristics of these polygons were measured an...

Human Striatal Responses to Monetary Reward Depend On Saliency

While the striatum has been implicated in reward processing, an alternative view contends that the striatum processes salient events in general. Using fMRI, we investigated human striatal responses to monetary reward while modulating the saliency surrounding its receipt. Money was maximally salient when its receipt depended on a correct response (active) and minimally salient when its receipt w...
